Tip to Keep Pets and You Safe: DO NOT Chase
It's important to prioritize safety for both you and the pet. Instead of chasing after a running pet, it's better to study their behavior when they're lost.
When you see a pet running please:
Do not call out to the pet, this can escalate their jog into a sprint.
Follow at a safe distance and try and get a photo.
Take note of the cross streets and direction of travel.
Immediately post as ‘Spotted Dog’ with as much of the information above that you have.
Lost Pets
If you’ve recently lost your pet:
Don’t waste any time. Immediately begin searching the moment you notice they're missing. DO NOT delay or assume “They’ll find their way home.” Your pet could be in another person’s home, stuck in a yard, garage, or shed, or at one of the local shelters. Without identification, pets are only required to be held in California shelters for just 72 hours!
